Dental Checkups
A very important part of dental health is your dental checkup. The standard recommendation is to visit your dentist twice a year for examinations and cleanings. During the check-up, we will analyze your teeth and gums for signs of cavities, gingivitis, and other health problems.
Reasons for a dental check-up include:
- Looking for issues that you may not see or feel
- Dealing with other oral health problems
- Seeking early indications of decay
During your check-up, we will also inspect the skin and soft tissue inside your mouth. X-rays will be taken to indicate decay or wear and previous treatments – fillings, crowns, implants – will also be checked and evaluated. We will be sure to look at:
- Tiny cracks or fractures
- Early indications of gum disease
- Early signs of oral cancer
- Signs of other oral disease that may directly impact your general health
- Fillings, crowns, and other restorations that are not in good shape and need repair
- Root cavities or cavities that trigger the gums to recede or pull away from the teeth
- Wisdom teeth that are caught in the gums and may need to be extracted
