Sealants

Sealants are thin, plastic finishes applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to help prevent cavities. We recommend sealants for most of our younger and high-risk patients, and we suggest sealants as soon as a child’s long-term molars and pre-molars come in, before decay can do any damage.

Sealants play a critical role in protecting adult teeth too but the level of success and durability depends on the cooperation of the patient. It’s important to maintain a healthy oral healthcare routine.

Sealants can be clear, white, or tinted, and are generally not seen when a person talks or smiles. They are extremely thin and fill the pits and grooves of molars. A sealant can last from 5 to 10 years and must be examined at your regular dental visits.
